I am developing an android (Android ) project in which I read data from devices connected through usb. On the connected sensor board I have an FTDI chipset, so I am using their d2xx drivers. Everything works fine to begin with: I am able to acquire data through the usb connection and do my processing. From earlier experience, I can say that it could also depend on the Android device and/or the chip/driver you are using - with some FTDI chips there was no other solution than to root the Android device and to include/implement some further driver support for the chip.
